Tikkun Olam: Repairing the World

Tikkun Olam

In Torah we read, Tzedek, tzedek tirdof — Righteousness, righteousness you must pursue! We respond to that mitzvah in many ways as we address the various imbalances in the world.

The beach environment that needs constant care, the homeless yearning for transformation to independence, the hungry unable to feed their family; these are but a few of the many areas in which Wilshire Boulevard Temple’s congregants come together to create a culture where tikkun olam is not a special event, but an everyday part of our communal life.

Every year the Tikkun Olam Committee looks for opportunities that not only are meaningful and inspiring for the congregation, but most importantly, make a difference in the community and the world in which we live.

Join us in the Mitzvah to help heal the world through domestic programming recognized as one of the nation's best by the Religious Action Center and for our international efforts by the World Union for Progressive Judaism

SOCIAL JUSTICE

HOMELESSNESS - MAKE LOS ANGELES A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE

image

Community organizing - sharing our stories and banding together with others in our neighborhood - can create great changes in cities. In Baltimore, synagogues and churches worked together to win the first local living-wage ordinance in the country, which spurred more than one hundred successful living wage campaigns across the United States. A Miami coalition convinced the city's housing agency to require high-end real-estate developers to create a significant percentage of affordable housing units.

After pver 100 congregants spoke up, the message was clear: we have to help alleviate homelessness in our city. SIGN UP FOR A CHANGE: Click Here, leave us your name, phone number, and email address, and we will contact you. Every voice is valued and you CAN make a difference in one of Los Angeles' greatest challenges - speak up and be heard!
