Gloria & Peter S. Gold Religious School

Our Center for Learning and Engagement aims to create an atmosphere where children of all ages can learn to embrace and to love Judaism.

CLE Master Calendar

We offer unique experiences in a nurturing environment that enables students to feel connected to the Jewish community and grow up embracing a life rich with Jewish values, self-esteem and humanity.

Wilshire Boulevard Temple's Center for Learning and Engagement provides an innovative and substantive Reform Jewish education based on the values, traditions and history of Judaism. We provide the only accredited once-weekly Jewish education program in the nation.

Four Branches of Learning

Our curriculum is based on four branches of Jewish tradition and learning: Luach (calendar: life cycle and holidays), T’filah (prayer and the prayer book), Israel (the land and community) and Torah (text exploration). Like a continually renewing forest, the Jewish cycle of repetition allows familiar material to become new again every year. Hebrew is woven throughout to provide a wholistic learning environment. Children learn without even knowing they’re learning! It’s a warm and friendly environment where everyone feels safe to question and to explore opportunities.

Trees represent life and all its phases...

We’ve given our groups names from the world of trees; from young saplings, to trees that grow to give us food and shelter, and that have grown together into orchards and forests. Each has its own character and needs. Like trees, our program itself is growing, adding new gifts.  You may learn more about each program below.

Message from the Directors

It’s our great pleasure to welcome you to Wilshire Boulevard Temple’s Religious Schools. This year, we’ve built on the outstanding program we’ve always offered and reframed key features to help meet the evolving needs and desires of young people and their families...

Elon (small tree)
Pre-K - Age 4

For our youngest people, our program is designed to give parents the tools they need to be their child’s primary Jewish educator. Building on familiar parenting skills and interactions, we provide a monthly family education program at one of the Temple’s campuses.

Tamar (date tree)
Kindergarten - Age 5

Participants engage in a wide range of activities that allow them to develop an initial relationship with Jewish values, rituals, traditions and Hebrew. This is a creative program, using storytelling to gain familiarity with mitzvot such as tzedakah and Shabbat.

Eshel (desert tree)
Combined 1st and 2nd grade

Participants in each of these groups learn Hebrew while exploring Judaism’s rich array of traditions, rituals, history and values. Participants develop an understanding and awareness of the annual cycle of Jewish living.

Erez (cedar tree)
Combined 3rd and 4th grade

Participants in each of these groups learn Hebrew while exploring Judaism’s rich array of traditions, rituals, history and values. Participants develop an understanding and awareness of the annual cycle of Jewish living.

Zayyit (olive tree)
Combined 5th and 6th grade

Participants in each of these groups learn Hebrew while exploring Judaism’s rich array of traditions, rituals, history and values. Participants develop an understanding and awareness of the annual cycle of Jewish living.

Bamachaneh
The Camp Option (3rd - 6th only)

If you’re familiar with our outstanding summer Camps, you know how beneficial and transformative this experience is. Now for the first time, 3rd–6th graders can fulfill their religious school participation at Camp Hess Kramer two Sundays a month.

Pardes (orchard)
7th Grade - Preparing for B’nei Mitzvah

Becoming Bar/Bat Mitzvah is a major milestone in Jewish life and the gateway to increased community involvement. The 7th Grade program prepares participants to become Bar/Bat Mitzvah and provides them with the life tools for fulfilling the obligations and opportunities of Jewish living.

Yaar (forest)
8th – 12th Grade

Our Youth Programs create a welcoming, supportive Jewish environment for our young people by providing educational, spiritual and relationship-building experiences. Our trained and dedicated staff members are positive Jewish role models and help ease the transition from child to young adult.
