Are there moments in life when you've been ill, when you wanted a little support, a little concern from someone outside your family circle? Are there moments when you've faced challenges and wished you could talk with another adult, someone who is not your son or daughter, someone who is not your parent? Perhaps there are times when you just want to open your heart when faced with a life transition such as diagnosis of breast cancer, or an illness of a young child, or a death in the family.
Call us at 213-388-2401 and ask for Nan McCullough.
Chavarim are volunteers from all walks of life who have one thing in common: we are all Wilshire Boulevard Temple members who wish to be of service. A Chaver becomes a unique friend, there to listen and offer support. Chaverim are supportive, empathetic individuals who give their time to extend a hand and lend an ear.
The Bikur Holim Caring Community trains volunteers from all walks of life to be of service to individuals and families within our synagogue.
They serve in our Chaver program, offering support service to Temple members facing difficult life challenges. Haverim are trained to listen and offer support a few hours a month. Chaverim come with warmth and enthusiasm. They understand and maintain confidentiality. Over 30 volunteers have been professionally trained to serve as Chaverim. We also provide continuing education, with full continuing education credit. If you would like to become a Chaver or learn more about the Caring Community program, please contact Nan McCullough at 213-388-2401
