Dear Parent,
Welcome to the Center for Learning and Engagement, the Religious Schools of Wilshire Boulevard Temple. For generations, the strength of the Jewish people has come from our knowledge of who we are and our ability to adapt to our changing environments. While we maintain the basic essence of our history and our faith, we must continually incorporate new methods to keep our valued and ancient concepts relevant for our evolving, modern families. As educators, we seek to share the adventure of our people with every member of our Temple family, from our very young kindergarteners to their older brothers and sisters in high school.
Our mission is to integrate the three pillars of Jewish living in meaningful and creative ways. The study of Torah (the grand story, literature and history of our people), avodah (the practices of celebration and worship) and g’milut chasadim (the performance of acts of loving kindness) are all essential to the development of who we are and what we do. Our caring and professional staff offers challenging, stimulating activities and lessons that serve our participants in our unified and unique environments. Whether at our historic Temple Campus or at the Audrey and Sydney Irmas Campus, the desire to meet individual needs and to enhance the development of strong Jewish identities keeps our focus on values and the process of lifetime learning.
Children learn Hebrew as they explore prayers. Jewish traditions and rituals come alive as we incorporate them into our daily lives. Teamwork and community evolve as we become increasingly aware of our connections to our history and to each other. And all of this happens in a setting that is warm, safe, friendly and fun!
Our comprehensive approach invites families on a meaningful journey of deeper knowledge and greater Jewish connections. We look forward to your partnership in this valued endeavor of creating a better world through commitment and action.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me with your thoughts.
L’ Shalom,
Sarah Hanuka
